Members-Only Workshop – Getting Back to Basics: Disability Terminology and Connecting to Movement
Date: Wednesday, March 12, 2025
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 PM ET
How do we characterize disability within the philanthropic sector? What is the difference between disability rights and disability justice? How do we better collaborate with disabled movement leaders? What are the best strategies for disability systems change?
You may have asked yourself these questions during your personal and organizational journey toward disability justice principles. The answers are complex, ever-shifting, and often differ depending on the source. But they are important questions, because when we expand philanthropy’s understanding of disability, we are able to expand disability grantmaking.
In this members-only interactive session, we will create a baseline for disability terminology and provide participants with practical tools to engage in these questions at their respective organizations. Program Officers and Grant Managers are strongly encouraged to attend this session.
This workshop is only available to members of the Disability & Philanthropy Forum. If you work in philanthropy but are not a Forum member, we invite you to apply to become one!
