Statement on Recent Supreme Court Rulings
In light of the recent Supreme Court rulings that have rolled back both affirmative action and protections for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, the Disability & Philanthropy Forum unequivocally reaffirms our stance that philanthropy must urgently take action against anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and heterosexism that continues to reign in our society. The Forum recognizes that any form of prejudice does not exist in a vacuum, and that all systems of oppression are deeply interlocked.
Our commitment to shift the philanthropic sector toward disability rights and justice requires an unwavering commitment to being actively anti-racist and against oppression of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. We call on our colleagues in philanthropy to join us in advancing a truly equitable, inclusive future.
In addition, the Forum has signed on to the Philanthropic Joint Statement in Response to the Supreme Court’s Decision in ‘Students for Fair Admissions’ Cases, and we encourage our colleagues to do the same. As the statement powerfully reminds us, “Our nation’s future prosperity, vitality, and unity depend upon America becoming a true multiracial democracy.”
